ABOUT MEI am Virginia Pérez Román, a professional translator working from English and French into Spanish. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Translation & Interpreting from English, French and Japanese from Pontificia Comillas University of Madrid (2003). In 2003, I was appointed Sworn English-Spanish Translator by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2016, I completed my Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP University, London, which gave me an in-depth knowledge of the English legal system and which covered the following areas of law: Contract Law, Equity & Trusts, Tort Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, EU Law and Land Law. I have recently completed a comprehensive course on Spanish Law (Programa de Especialización en Derecho Español para Traductores Jurídicos) taught by Spanish lawyer Lola Gamboa (Educación Digital), covering the Spanish Legal System, Spanish Civil and Criminal Procedure Law, Criminal Law, Contract Law, Employment Law, Family Law, Wills & Successions and Company Law, as well as a course on Spanish Company Law (Derecho de la Empresa), taught by Spanish lawyers Ruth Gamez and Fernando Cuñado (Traducción Jurídica Academia). I am a Chartered Linguist and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL). I offer one-to-one Legal Spanish lessons. I have trained as a Spanish language teacher at Instituto Cervantes Londres and I have recently obtained a Graduate Certificate of Spanish Language Teaching to Adults (GCSLTA), accredited by the University of Roehampton.
In 2003, I was appointed as "Traductor-Intérprete Jurado de Inglés" (Sworn English-Spanish Translator-Interpreter, number 4057), or Certified Spanish Translator, by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Co-operation and have worked in such capacity since then.I am currently registered at the Consulate of Spain in London in order to provide UK-based clients with sworn legal translations to be submitted to any official authorities and bodies in Spain. From 2004 to 2007 I worked as an In-house Translator and Translation Project Co-ordinator at SORT (Madrid) while I continued to work part-time as a freelance translator for several agencies, until I decided to go full-time with freelancing. I have since then worked for a range of language service providers, law firms, businesses and individuals. I have translated about 7,000,000 words. Some of the clients I work for directly or through LSPs include: Diageo, PwC, Eversheds, Hogan Lovells, Allen & Overy, Norton Rose Fulbright, FAO, Clyde & Co, Vanner Perez Notaries, Charles Russell Speechlys LLP.
I currently volunteer as a translator with several UN agencies and organisations (including UN-Habitat, UNEP and UNSSC) under the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme.
