ABOUT ME - SWORN SPANISH TRANSLATOR
I am Virginia Pérez Román, a Sworn Spanish translator and Legal English-Spanish Translator with a Bachelor's Degree in Translation & Interpreting by Pontificia Comillas University of Madrid, a Graduate Diploma in English Law (GDL, BPP Law School) and a Sworn English-Spanish and Spanish-English Translator-Interpreter (license number 4057), appointed by the Spanish Government (Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in 2003. I am also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) and I was recently appointed as a Chartered Linguist by this institute.
Apart from being a Sworn Spanish Translator, I am a legal English-Spanish translator who has read law in the UK.
I have more than 20 years of experience providing sworn and legal translation services to Spanish, UK and Anglo-Spanish law firms and notary's offices mostly based in London, my place of residence.
I have read English law and in 2016 I was awarded a Graduate Diploma in Law (with a focus on England and Wales) by BPP Law School, after successfully passing examinations. Thanks to these studies, taken prior to the Legal Practice Course, not only did I gain comprehensive knowledge of the legal system in England and Wales, allowing me to handle complex legal texts which it would not be possible to understand without proper training, but I have also become proficient in legal English as a result of my repeated exposure to these types of documents as part of my studies and my work as a translator.
The course involves not only the academic study of the English Legal System (sources of law, the doctrine of judicial precedent, the judicial system and statute interpretation, with a special focus on England and Wales), Contract Law, Equity & Trusts, Tort Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Land Law, EU Law, Case Analysis and Statute Analysis, but also an independent research project and problem questions.
As a legal English-Spanish translator, I am committed to continuous professional development both in Spanish Law and also the legal system in place in the jurisdiction where the source language is spoken (England and Wales).
I specialise in the translation of trusts, contracts, company documents and civil litigation documents. Apart from the aforementioned training, I have been recently awarded a Level 6 Single-Subject Certificate in Company & Partnership Law with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX Law School) and I am currently taking a course on contract drafting.

I am currently registered at the Consulate of Spain in London in order to provide UK-based clients with sworn legal translations to be submitted to any official authorities and bodies in Spain. From 2004 to 2007 I worked as an In-house Translator and Translation Project Co-ordinator at SORT (Madrid) while I continued to work part-time as a freelance translator for several agencies, until I decided to go full-time with freelancing. I have since then worked for a range of language service providers, law firms, businesses and individuals. I have translated about 7,000,000 words. I also have broad experience in market research and marketing translation, including for companies in the tourism / leisure, beauty / cosmetics, sports apparel and watchmaking sectors, and e-commerce (Amazon).I currently volunteer as a translator with several UN agencies and organisations (including UN-Habitat, UNEP and UNSSC) under the United Nations Volunteer (UNV) programme and I have also translated for FAO.
